Remember Who You Are

Updated: Apr 16

How Long Are You Going to Wait Before Taking Possession?

Key Scripture: Joshua 18:3 (NLT)

"Then Joshua asked them, 'How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given to you?'"

One evening during my quiet time, I came across a verse that stopped me mid-read. It wasn’t unfamiliar but this time, it felt personal.

"How long are you going to wait before taking possession?" That question hit real direct.

How long will you hesitate?

How long will you second-guess what’s already been placed within you?

How long will you stand in front of opportunity but never fully step into it?

Im pretty sure it stuck out to me the most because lately I have been doubting myself. Not in what I can have but in what I can do. I wasn’t doubting God’s promises. I was doubting my ability to walk them out. Because if we’re honest, the struggle isn’t always about what’s available to us, it’s about what we believe we’re capable of.

This is where many of us quietly get stuck.

We don’t always struggle with believing that blessings exist. We struggle with believing we’re capable of stewarding them.

We see opportunity, but instead of stepping forward, we shrink back. We hesitate and

second-guess. We delay movement because of fear. What if the real issue isn’t readiness but in remembrance?

Remember Who You Are

As I sat with that verse, I sensed a simple but strong reminder: "Remember who you are."

Identity is usually the cause of hesitation.

When we forget who we are in God, doubt grows louder. We question our capacity, our strength, and our worthiness to step into what God has placed before us.

But scripture repeatedly shows us something powerful: God does not wait for perfect people. He calls willing ones. I repeatedly thought of Moses—a man who didn’t feel qualified to lead anyone, much less thousands. He had limitations. He had fears.

He even pointed out his own speech challenges. Yet God still called him.

Not because Moses felt capable but because God had already equipped him. Thats the same principle that stands today.

Why We Hesitate Even When the Path Is Clear

Sometimes the greatest barrier to possession is hesitation. We hesitate because:

• We doubt our abilities

• We compare ourselves to others

• We fear failing in public

• We feel unqualified

• We assume someone else is better suited

Hesitation often disguises itself as humility, wisdom, or waiting on God when in reality, it may be fear.

The children of Israel had already been given the land. The promise was settled. Yet Joshua still had to ask: "How long are you going to wait?" Not because God hadn’t spoken but because the people hadn’t moved.

There are seasons when delay is obedience but there are also seasons when delay becomes disobedience and one of the enemy’s most effective strategies is planting seeds of doubt that make us think less of ourselves than God does.

Recognizing the Strategy of Doubt

The first step to overcoming doubt is recognition. Doubt rarely announces itself loudly. Instead it quietly says things like:

• "You’re not ready yet."

• "Someone else could do this better."

• "What if you fail?"

• "You don’t have enough experience."

But doubt isn’t just insecurity but often opposition. If the enemy can convince you to shrink, he doesn’t have to stop you. You’ll stop yourself. That’s why recognition matters.

When you recognize doubt for what it is, a tactic, you regain power over it.

God Uses the Unlikely on Purpose

One of the most encouraging facts in the Bible is that God consistently chooses people who feel unqualified. Not because they are incapable—but because His strength is revealed through their weakness.

1 Corinthians 1:27 (NLT)

*"Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise.

This Is Your Moment to Step Forward

Now is not the time to play small! Not after everything you’ve overcome. Not after everything God has already revealed to you.

Not after the doors that have already been opened. You’ve been called, equipped, and positioned strategically. The same God who made the promise is the same God who will sustain you in the process.

Journal Prompt

Where in my life have I been hesitating, even though I know God is calling me forward?

What specific thoughts or fears are making me question my ability and are they rooted in truth or doubt?

Faith Step: Move Before You Feel Ready

Identify one area where you’ve been holding back. Ask yourself What is one bold step I can take this week to move forward anyway?

Not next month. Not when you feel more confident. This week. Then do it. Confidence doesn’t come before movement. It’s built through it.

Bonus

My Bishop preached a sermon with this exact topic, different text but same message. This was a special moment for me because my now Bishop did this sermon at my home church for their revival. The church that is feeding and watering me joined with the church that raised me. Anyway! Enjoy the message thats being taught and comment your thoughts
